Description

This vintage duck hex tile reproduces a collotype print from the late 1880s or early 1890s, showing two ducks hung by the feet against a plain background, a classic still life composition from the era.

Game bird still lifes were a well-established subject long before photography took them on, going back centuries in European painting, and this print carries that same tradition forward through a newer medium. The muted green-gray tone and the careful rendering of each feather, from the fine speckling on the belly to the darker wing tips, gives the piece real texture despite its restrained color palette.

I chose this piece because still life game scenes are an honest part of rural and hunting history that doesn’t usually make it onto decor walls anymore, even though the compositions themselves were genuinely well made.

This tile is a natural fit for a hunting cabin, a kitchen, or a study leaning toward classic still life and rural Americana. It’s a solid gift for anyone who hunts or cooks wild game. Add one of my hexagon frames to finish it.

Available from 1.5 inches up to 18 inches.
