This futurism skater image is a reproduction of “Les Six Jours ou La Patineuse” (The Six Days, or The Skater), an oil on canvas painted in 1913 by French Futurist artist Félix Del Marle (1889–1952). The work captures a figure in motion — a skater — fragmented and multiplied across the canvas in a dynamic explosion of overlapping forms, rhythm, and energy. It is Futurism doing exactly what Futurism was born to do: make you feel the blur of movement rather than simply observe it. The original painting is held in the permanent collection of the Yale University Art Gallery.

Del Marle’s career unfolded in two main periods — one Futurist, the other neo-plastic. Deeply influenced by Marinetti’s landmark 1909 manifesto, Del Marle met the Futurist painters Boccioni and Severini in Paris and enthusiastically adopted their theories, giving them a distinctly French flavor. Artsy In 1913 — the same year he painted La Patineuse — he published his own modernist “Manifeste futuriste à Montmartre,” boldly declaring the need to tear down the old and embrace the geometric beauty of train stations, electrical devices, and aircraft. He remains the only French artist to fully commit to the Futurist movement.
