Description
This folk art chicken hex tile is here, it’s fabulous, and it absolutely does not care what you think about it. A gloriously round hen struts across the tile with a body made entirely of hand-drawn green and gold spirals, four red tassel feet planted firmly on the ground, a decorative onion-shaped head trimmed in red zigzag points, and a face featuring blue eyebrows, a tiny crown, and a red diamond nose that suggests this bird has a very high opinion of itself. A jaunty green tail spike completes the look. This chicken has arrived.
This is original artwork by Bridget Koonce, and it represents a side of her work that delights in pure playfulness. The folk art tradition — bold, flat, decorative, slightly absurdist — runs through art forms from Russian lacquerware to Mexican Talavera to Ukrainian embroidery, and this chicken borrows happily from all of them while being completely its own thing. The spiral-filled body is a direct nod to Bridget’s henna and mandala work.
Some walls need a chicken. A kitchen wall, absolutely. A breakfast nook, without question. It also makes one of the most memorable gifts in the entire collection. Browse all of Bridget’s Originals for more one-of-a-kind designs.
This tile is UV printed on 1/8″ Baltic birch wood for a warm, natural finish that makes the colors pop. The back is engraved with the HexWallTiles website. It comes as a standalone tile — you can use sticky tack to apply it directly to your wall, or pair it with one of our hexagon frames for a more finished look. Frames, necklaces, and all other hexagon accessories are sold separately.
Wondering where to hang it? HexWallTiles work beautifully in a home office, bedroom, or living room. Hang a single tile as a standalone statement piece, cluster several together for a gallery wall effect, or wind them down a hallway for something truly unexpected. The hex shape means every arrangement looks intentional — there are no wrong choices.
Made in small batches from natural materials here in Springfield, Missouri. Please allow for slight variation between tiles — that’s part of what makes each one unique and handmade.
Sizes available: 1.5″, 3″, 6″, and 12″ width.
