Description
This gold art nouveau hex tile reproduces Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss, painted between 1907 and 1908 during what’s often called his Golden Phase. It’s one of the most recognized paintings in the world, and I still think it holds up to a close look even after a hundred years of reproduction.
The gold covers nearly the whole piece, broken into rectangles, spirals, and circles that wrap the two figures like fabric. Klimt used real gold leaf in the original, which is part of why it glows the way it does. The couple kneels together on a bed of wildflowers, her face tilted up, his hand cradling her jaw. Everything about the composition pulls the eye toward that single point of contact.
The painting has carried a lot of meaning over the decades, most of it around devotion, intimacy, and the kind of closeness that doesn’t need words. I don’t think that reading needs updating. It still lands the same way it did in 1908.
This one works as a bedroom or bathroom accent, especially somewhere warm-toned, or as a wedding or anniversary gift alongside other pieces from the Art History Collection. It’s also just a striking single statement piece if gold and deep color already run through your space.
Available from 1.5 inches up to 18 inches.
